Dogs are smart, and a puzzle they’ve solved every day for a month stops being a puzzle. Rotating between two patterns keeps mealtime new, so your dog stays curious and keeps working for every bite instead of figuring out a shortcut. Many owners build it into a simple ritual: one feeder in the morning and the other at night, or swap the lick mats each week. It also makes life easier, because while one set is in the dishwasher, the other is ready to go.

Very. All feeders and mats are made from food-grade silicone, so nothing sticks for long. Pop them on the top rack of the dishwasher [confirm], or rinse with warm soapy water and a small brush to get into the grooves. Let them dry fully before the next use.

Almost anything your dog already eats. The slow feeders work with kibble, wet food or raw. For the lick mats, spread something soft like plain yogurt, pumpkin purée, mashed banana, wet food or dog-safe peanut butter. Freeze a filled mat for a longer-lasting treat. Always check that peanut butter is xylitol-free, since xylitol is toxic to dogs.
